Hussain Sajwani never wanted to be a businessman when he was a youth because his entrepreneur father made him work long hours after school. Instead, he thought it would be better to get a degree and work regular hours as a professional.
That idea changed when he found out that he could buy candy at wholesale prices and resell it to his fellow students at a nice profit at school. He claims that business got into his blood and it has not ceased since.
After getting his engineering degree at the University of Washington in the United States, Sajwani, he worked for a short time as an oil company executive. Soon, however he was in business for himself as he formed a catering company which served the U.S. Army during the Gulf War. Today the catering branch of his business still is a large player all over the middle east.
In 2002, Sajwani formed Damac Properties, the entity that he would expand to new heights as he took advantage of a market opportunity when the UAE allowed foreigners to come into the country and become permanent residents. The ability of the Damac Owner to be able to foresee the future and apply his talents to the project is in large part the reason for his outstanding success.
Sajwani initially bought property in an undeveloped part of the Dubai and through shrewd and imaginative promotion and marketing was able to sell out the entire 38 story project before any construction had even begun. Such advertising as “A New Bentley For Every Apartment” caught the eye of prospective buyers very quickly.
Sajwani is responsible for the beginning of the tremendous real estate growth in Dubai taking place as his initial plans were very revolutionary for the day. His formula for success is to buy the land for his projects outright with cash, which secures his position unquestionably. Then each property has its own bank account so that there is no intermingling of funds.
Saswani has also added two Donald Trump golf courses to his properties while including Hussain Sajwani family members in various key positions in his company.
